Our mission is to take care of caretakers

Lugar de aconchego Menino Matias is a non-profit, non-government organization that supports mothers in various ways who´s children suffer form cancer.

For this reason our NGO is located right next to the National Cancer Institute - INCA, a state hospital that specializes in the fight against cancer and that is one of the most preeminent cancer research institutions in Brazil.

We welcome mothers from INCA who face enormous difficulties: Mothers from particularly poor backgrounds, mothers of several children, single parents, having traveled from far away, even some from other states of Brazil, and who are insufficiently supported by their own families. Many of them even have to give up their jobs in order to care full-time for their critically or terminally ill child.

For these deeply afflicted women, we provide a space of comfort where they can relax and their children can play. Our NGO has toy rooms for girls and boys, as well as a shower, bathtub and washing machine.
